1. Our Commitment (Policy Statement)
Briefcase Academy is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and young people we work with. We believe that all children have a right to be protected from harm, abuse, and neglect. This policy applies to all tutors and staff associated with Briefcase Academy and will be shared with parents/guardians.
2. Purpose and Scope
The purpose of this policy is to protect children and young people who receive Briefcase Academy's services and provide tutors with the principles that guide our approach to child protection. It applies to all tutoring sessions, whether in-person at hired venues, in a student's home, or online.
3. Code of Conduct for Tutors
All tutors are expected to adhere to professional boundaries, including: maintaining professional relationships, conducting sessions in an open and observable manner, directing all communication through parents/guardians, and permitting no physical contact. All tutors must hold a valid Enhanced DBS certificate.
4. Procedure for Reporting a Concern
If a tutor has a concern about a child's welfare, they must take it seriously. If a child is in immediate danger, the tutor will call 999. All concerns will be reported to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), the tutor, who will record the concern factually. If harm is suspected, the DSL will contact the Milton Keynes Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) at 01908 253169. For advice, the NSPCC Helpline (0808 800 5000) can be contacted.
5. Safer Recruitment
As Briefcase Academy grows, any new tutors or staff will be subject to a rigorous safer recruitment process, including a formal interview, verification of identity and qualifications, an Enhanced DBS check, and at least two professional references.
